Respect

Hi everyone, Respect what do we mean by showing someone respect? The dictionary says that this is defined as " Treat with considerable high regard; relate to or to have to with." The Bible says that respect is recognising someone elses worth, honouring them for what they have done and for who they are. In a very real sense. It is a gift you confer on someone, a gift of valuing them highly. To honour and respect others requires humility on our part, because we are making others look good without trying make ourselves look good at the same time. You gain respect by showing that you do indeed hold someone in high regard. In Jude 1:20 we read But you, dear friends must continue to build on the foundation of your Holy faith. Even Our Lord himself in Matthew 7:12 says Do unto thers as we would like them do to you. In Romans 2:10 we read There will be glory and honour and peace from God for all who do good. In 1 Kings 13:8 Even if you gave me half of everything you own I would not go with you. We gain respect in much the same way that we show it, building our lives on Gods word treating others the way we would like to be treated, not compromising our character, and standing up for the truth no matter what. We must of cause show respect for others in Luke 10:30-37 we read Then a despised Samaritan came along and saw the man, he felt deep pity. Kneeling beside him, the Samaritan soothed his wounds. In Romans 12:10 we read Take delight in honouring others. In Philippians 2:3 It says Be humble thinking of others as better than yourself. In 1 Peter 2:17 it says Love your Christian brothers and sisters. In 1 Thessalonians 5:12 Honour those who are your leaders in The Lords Work. We should also caution our selves as in James 2:1 How can you claim that you have faith in our glorious Lord Jesus Christ if you favour some people more than others. Respect involves showing more concern for people than agendas, thinking highly of others , building them up in love and treating everyone with fairness and integrity. We should then ask our selvers to who do we both honour and respect? In Nehemiah 1:11 O Lord, please hear my prayer! Listen to the prayers of those of us who delight in honouring you. In Revelation 4:11 it says You are worthy O Lord our God to receive Glory and honour and power for you created everything. (God) In Exodus 20:2 it says Honour your father and mother, Then you will have a long, full life in the land the Lord your God has given you. (Parents) In Leviticus 19:32 Show your fear of God by standing up in the presence of elderly people and showing respect for the aged. (The Elderly) In 1 Samuel 24:5-7 It is a serious thing to attack the Lords annointed one (Those In Authority Over Us) In Luke 14:11 we read The proud will be humbled, but the humble will be honoured. In Romans 12:10 it says Love each other with genuine affection and take delight in honouring each other (Others) In a nut shell everyone if we show respect to others then they will return it, We should also show respect for anothers faith even if it is not our own, By showing we have this, there is a better chance that they will show equal respect for the faith we have in Our Lord Jesus Christ and his Church.
